# BCRS (Beverage Container Return Scheme)

> Set up the $0.10 beverage container deposit on Atlas for Singapore's BCRS regulation.

## What this does

Starting 1 April 2026, Singapore requires a \$0.10 deposit on every pre-packaged beverage sold in a disposable container. Atlas adds this deposit automatically to orders containing BCRS-tagged items.

You need to tag which products are BCRS-eligible. Atlas handles the rest — the \$0.10 deposit appears as a separate line on receipts, invoices, and order summaries across POS, online ordering, kiosk, and scan-to-order.

## How BCRS works on Atlas

* **\$0.10 per item**: Each BCRS-tagged item adds \$0.10 per unit to the order. If a customer orders 3 canned drinks, the deposit is \$0.30.
* **Modifiers count too**: If a drink modifier (e.g., "add canned soda") is tagged as BCRS, it also incurs the deposit.
* **Not taxable**: The deposit is not subject to GST.
* **Not discountable**: Discounts do not reduce the deposit amount.
* **Separate line on receipts**: The deposit shows as "BCRS deposit" on printed receipts, PDF invoices, and order summaries.

  The BCRS deposit does not affect your net sales figures in reports. It is a pass-through charge collected on behalf of the scheme.

## Tag products as BCRS-eligible

You can tag products one at a time or in bulk using CSV. This applies to pre-packaged drinks in plastic or metal containers (150mL to 3L) that come with a deposit mark. If unsure, you may confirm if the drinks you serve are eligible with your supplier.

        Open [Products](https://portal.atlas.kitchen/products) on the merchant portal.

        Select the product you want to tag (e.g., "Canned Coke 330ml").
      </Step>

      <Step title="Turn on the BCRS toggle">
        Scroll to the **BCRS** section in the product form. Turn on the toggle.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Save">
        Tap **Save**. Repeat for each product that uses a disposable beverage container.
      </Step>

      Modifiers can also be tagged as BCRS. Edit the modifier the same way — the BCRS toggle appears for both products and modifiers.

        On the [Products](https://portal.atlas.kitchen/products) page, tap the dropdown menu and select **Export products to CSV**. You will receive an email with the CSV file.

        Open the CSV file. Find the **BCRS** column. Set it to `TRUE` for every beverage product that uses a disposable container. Set it to `FALSE` for everything else.

        On the Products page, tap the dropdown menu and select **Import CSV**. Upload your edited file and review the preview table.

      <Step title="Confirm the import">
        Check that the BCRS column shows a green tick for the correct products. Tap **Confirm** to apply.

## But what if some of my outlets still carry old stock without the deposit mark?

Some outlets may not have BCRS-labelled stock yet (e.g., still clearing old inventory). You can disable BCRS for specific outlets on a per-product basis.

    Go to [Products](https://portal.atlas.kitchen/products) and select the product.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select outlets to exclude">
    In the **BCRS** section (with the toggle turned on), use the **Exclude outlets** dropdown to select which outlets should not charge the BCRS deposit for this product.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Tap **Save**. Those outlets will not add the \$0.10 deposit for this product until you remove the exclusion.

  Per-outlet exclusions can only be set on the merchant portal — not via CSV import.

## Return Right F\&B Scheme (dine-in exemption)

If your outlet has signed up for NEA's **Return Right F\&B Scheme (RRFS)**, dine-in orders are exempt from the BCRS deposit. Customers leave their containers at the outlet instead of paying the deposit.

RRFS means:

* **Dine-in orders**: No BCRS deposit charged
* **Takeaway and delivery orders**: BCRS deposit still applies

To enable RRFS for an outlet, contact Atlas support at [hello@atlas.kitchen](mailto:hello@atlas.kitchen) or on your Whatsapp support channel with the outlet name. Atlas will turn on the RRFS eligibility for your outlet. This will automatically exempt BCRS drinks for all dine-in orders. Note that BCRS deposits will still apply for takeaway or delivery orders.

  To qualify for RRFS, your outlet must hold a valid food shop licence from the Singapore Food Agency, offer dine-in, and sell BCRS-regulated beverages. Sign up with NEA at [go.gov.sg/RRFS](https://go.gov.sg/RRFS) before contacting Atlas.

## What should happen

After tagging your products and enabling the feature:

* Orders with BCRS-tagged items show a **"BCRS deposit"** line in the payment breakdown
* The deposit is \$0.10 per BCRS item, multiplied by quantity
* Receipts (printed and PDF) include the BCRS deposit line
* RRFS outlets do not show the deposit for dine-in orders
* Excluded outlets do not show the deposit for excluded products

## If it doesn't work

* **Deposit not appearing on orders**: Check that the product's BCRS toggle is turned on. If you have multiple outlets, check that the outlet is not in the exclusion list.
* **Deposit showing on dine-in at an RRFS outlet**: Contact support to confirm RRFS is enabled for that outlet.
* **Deposit amount seems wrong**: Count the number of BCRS-tagged items (including modifiers) in the order. Each one adds \$0.10 per unit.
* **CSV import did not update BCRS**: Make sure the BCRS column has `TRUE` or `FALSE` (not blank). Re-export and check the values.
* **Issue persists**: Contact support at [hello@atlas.kitchen](mailto:hello@atlas.kitchen) with the order number and outlet name.
